How to Develop Content
Published October 02, 2023
Once you have your web site up and running, it is time to keep
the content coming. If you had a clear vision when you got started,
your first batch of content should take care of itself. Here are
some ideas to help with coming up with more content:
-
Keep something around you at all times to jot down ideas as you
have them. This could be a pocket journal or a notes application on
your phone. The idea is to capture the idea as you have it so it
isn't lost in the ether as a though will leave as quickly as it
arrives.
-
When you have an idea, see if you can convert it into a topic by
coming up with three or more pages/posts that relate to it. This
way, you can expand on the idea to provide more insight to your
users and get your idea across better. It also allows you to present
the idea in several different ways to that it can be understood
better.
-
When developing an idea, start out on paper, making a rough outline
and jot down every thought you had about it as quickly as you can to
make sure you don't lose anything. By the time you get to the keyboard
to type it up, the idea should be fully formed and you should be just
making it presentable.
-
Keep a copy of everything you write down in a folder (or folders,
arranged by topic) so that you can go back to them from time to time
to see if you're inspired by a new idea for that topic. It may be
as simple as something you had jotted down in the prior bullet but
did not use that sparks your creativity for a related idea.
-
Ask for feedback and listen to it to get a sense of how your
message is being received or if your users have something they want
to see. If you have users with like minds to yours, you can feed
off of each other to make a better product.
